It’s Easter soon, which can only mean one thing… battered crème eggs are back at Simpsons! Did you get to try them last time round? If you did, you’ll know how egg-stra special they are. If not, what are you waiting for? Get to Simpsons between 19th March and 8th April and give yourself an egg-citing treat!
Our battered crème eggs are exactly that… yummy crème eggs coated in our special batter and deep fried to perfection. They taste amazing and strike the perfect balance between savoury and sweet. Sound great, don’t they? And to get you in the mood, here’s some crème egg facts…
Bigger, not smaller
Cadbury’s might get some stick for reducing the size of some of their chocolate bars, but when it comes to their crème eggs, they’re actually bigger than they used to be – weighing in at 1g heavier than they were back in 1977.
Born in 1923
The Cadbury brothers created the first crème eggs back in 1923 as ‘Fry’s Crème Eggs’, renamed in 1971 as Cadbury’s Crème Eggs.
Not just crème eggs
As well as the original crème egg filling, Cadbury’s has given us 25 other variations over the years including caramel and Jaffa fillings.
Bigger than Everest
Did you know that so many crème eggs are made each year (a whopping 500 million!) that if you were to stack the yearly amount produced on top of each other, the pile would be ten times the size of Mount Everest!
Now we never realised this but crème eggs are only available annually between January 1st and Easter Day! Back in the 80s, they were available throughout the year but after a drop in sales, Cadbury’s returned to seasonal availability.
How do you eat yours?
There is a recommended way to eat a crème egg (can you believe it?!) which is to bite down cleanly on the egg while holding it firmly in place – chewing and swallowing half of the egg and then licking the filling out of the remaining half, and eating the empty shell last.
Well, that sounds good, but here at Simpsons, we think you should eat it any which way you want… oh and definitely try our battered version!
We all know that crème eggs taste delicious, but we think the best way to eat them is to batter them! At Simpsons, we’ve mastered the art of battered crème eggs to perfection. Come and try them for yourself!
