Long live our award-winning fish and chips

Well what an unexpected, crazy few months it’s been!

Who could have predicted we would have to close our doors at Simpsons Fish and Chips?

It’s been a really challenging time but thanks to the support of our team and you, our lovely customers, we’ve been able to reopen once again inline with government guidelines.

Although it has been difficult, we’re really proud to have retained each member of the Simpsons team thanks to the success of our click & collect and delivery service during the pandemic.

The team’s hard work, dedication and encouragement has been what’s helped to keep us going and we couldn’t be happier to reopen with the full team still on board.

Since we reopened, we’ve been working really hard to ensure our shop is as safe as possible for both our team and for you when collecting an order.

Fish, chips and social distancing

One of our new requirements is that we’re asking all customers to please wear a mask if you are able to when inside Simpsons Fish and Chips.

If you are exempt from wearing a mask or are hard of hearing, please let a member of our team know so we can help you as best as possible.

As much as we encourage friendship, love and community spirit, we’re asking you to keep a safe distance from your fellow customers and our team when queuing for an order.

Also, please feel free to help yourself to hand sanitiser which you can find inside our shop.

Try our award-winning fish and chips today

We look forward to welcoming you back!

Pre-order for click & collect online from our Cheltenham or Stroud shops, or for delivery from Cheltenham via Deliveroo and JustEat, available Tuesday – Saturday, 4-8pm.

Simpsons and International Women’s Day

An equal world is an enabled world.

That’s the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day held on March 8th. It’s an event that has been celebrated for well over a century, but there’s still just as much importance on recognising and championing women today as there was back in 1911.

But how can we all work together to forge a gender equal world and celebrate women’s achievements?

At Simpsons we’re passionate about making a better world and working environment for women, through women.

Our Simpsons Cheltenham team is passionately led by Bonny and we’re proud of our five intelligent, kind, empowering female managers who help run a tight ship during busy periods.

The fish and chips industry is a progressive one, supporting women across the UK and helping to shine a light on equality.

International women’s day

It was great to see the UK’s first ever Women in Fish and Chips event organised by national wholesaler JJ Food Service earlier this year. The event encouraged female chippies to meet others in the industry, share experiences and shape their business networks.

However we shouldn’t just rely on women supporting women.

We should all look to empower, inspire and support each other to collectively make a change towards a gender equal world. #EachforEqual

Simpsons show Cadbury’s how to perfectly batter a Creme Egg

Simpsons and Cadbury’s Eatertainment

Simpsons and Cadbury’s Eatertainment

With Easter not too far away, we’ve been busy hatching a plan of how to educate the nation on cooking a cracking battered Creme Egg.

It’s well known that we’re fans of battering these delicious eggs full of creamy, gooey goodness. But when Cadbury’s got in touch with us to film how we batter their Creme Eggs, we couldn’t contain our excitement.

The video will feature on Cadbury’s EATertainment website as part of their ‘Girl vs Goo’ series, where presenter Jahanna James is on a mission travelling the country to find the best Creme Egg dishes.

Bonny from Simpsons talks to Cadbury’s Eatertainment for battered creme egg

Filming in our Simpsons on Wheels van, Bonny shows Jahanna just how we batter our Creme Eggs from start to finish.

To view the video – make sure you have a notepad at the ready to jot down our eggs-pert tips – just visit the EATertainment website.

Something very exciting is happening at Simpsons

The start of a new year brings with it lots of exciting plans for our shops.

Along with other big plans later in the year, we’re currently working hard on something special at Simpsons Fish and Chips that’s top secret, although all will be revealed very soon.

To ensure you’re one of the first to know our big news, make sure you’re following us on all of our social channels and are subscribed to our exclusive Fry-yay newsletter.

This milestone has got us thinking about everything we’ve achieved in the last decade at Simpsons. From opening our second shop in Stroud in 2017 and being named as the UK’s Number 1 Fish & Chip Takeaway in 2016, it’s fair to say a lot has happened!

Join us as we take a trip down memory lane…

simpsons turns 10

We scooped up some awards
Within 10 years of service, we’re so proud to have won over 20 awards. Plus it was also amazing being named the top takeaway in 2016 at the National Fish and Chip Awards.

Served delicious food
We’ve done the maths and we reckon we’ve served over a million portions of fish and chips in the last ten years and used around 700,000,000 potatoes. That’s a lot of spuds to peel!

We’ve trained a friendly team
At Simpsons, we’re passionate about looking after our team and creating a fun, safe place to work. We still have one member of staff who has been with us since we first opened our doors in 2009!

Welcomed happy customers
We’ve served millions of customers in the last decade, and each and every one of you has meant so much to us. Without you, we wouldn’t have made it to where we are today.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us reach the 10 year mark… here’s to the next 10 years!

The importance of reading for children

With Cheltenham Literature Festival here, we’re joining in with the fun by offering little ones a copy of our Simpsons’ children’s book for free whilst stocks last.

Our children’s book explores where a portion of fish and chips comes from, following the journey from a farmer’s potato field to frying chips in nut oil.

When we’re surrounded by computers, phones, televisions and other digital forms of entertainment every day, we’re trying to encourage more people to take a screen break. Let’s bring back the joy of reading once again in children and adults alike.

Not only does reading improve a child’s cognitive development, improve their communication skills and help to reduce stress, it also creates opportunities to spend more time together as a family over a good book.

We know children follow by our example, so at Simpsons we’re also going to try and make a real conscious effort to be aware of how much time we’re spending in front of a screen and will be checking out the top books from the festival.

Plus as the future of our planet, we’re also keen to support and educate our children on the importance of sustainable fish and chips and understanding where your food comes from. Our children’s book covers all of this and more.

Come and pick up your free copy of our educational and fun book at Simpsons today, before we run out!

Time to make recycling the new norm

Recycling

Recycling

We’ve always been big believers in recycling at Simpsons as we understand the impact our industry can have on the environment. Join us as we continue to spread the message of making recycling the new norm.

Getting rid of plastic
We’ve always gone by the mantra of why use plastic when there are so many fantastic alternatives out there? We’ve been using recyclable bags and food packaging for a while now and love the support we get from all our customers about this.

Recycling food
We recycle all our food at Simpsons, however did you know approximately one-third of all food produced in the world is lost or wasted? This equates to £20bn worth of food wasted in the UK with the average family throwing away £810 worth of food every year.

Protecting the planet
However big or small, any changes you make can have a real impact on the planet. That’s why all of our light fittings are eco-friendly as are the sensors in our stores. We also recycle all of our oil, card and glass.

This September we’ll be fully supporting Recycle Week which runs from 23rd-29th and encourages everyone to give recycling a go. Rinse, crush, squash, sort and separate. Simple!

If we all work together we can really make a big difference in cutting down on plastic use and food wastage. Will you join us in being recycling champions?
