We’re helping to end loneliness with a senior and student meal deal at Simpsons Fish and Chips

The Simpsons Fish and Chips Senior Meal Deal is something we’re really proud of offering to our local senior citizens as it’s such a great deal! And with our recent top 25 ranking by The Times for the 100 best places to eat in the UK, there’s never been a better time to visit Simpsons.

Available at our Cheltenham restaurant Tuesday to Saturday, our Simpsons Fish and Chips Senior Meal Deal* is served between 11:45am and 2:00pm. Priced at just £10, our Senior Meal Deal consists of cod or haddock with chips, your choice of sauce and unlimited tea or bottomless coffee… it’s the perfect lunchtime treat!

We’re also supporting the ‘Campaign To End Loneliness‘ charity and will be offering both a senior and student meal deal. All you have to do is turn up and we’ll pair you with someone to enjoy a meal together – no-one should eat fish and chips alone after all!

Being recognised in the top 25 places of the final 100 by The Times has given us all a really great feeling as we know just how hard we work to serve delicious food in a fabulous environment!

Speaking in The Times, Giles Coren said: “This former Chippy of the Year squats on a corner off the main road looking more than anything like a bicycle shop or carwash. There’s an airy takeaway section on one side and, on the other, a wonderfully fresh-smelling eat-in restaurant.

“The incredibly helpful service staff wear 1950s-style waitress outfits, but black for a bit of chic, which is comforting to the clientele I found at noon on a Saturday taking advantage of the £10 “senior meal” deal. The place feels just as strong a sense of responsibility for the local human community as it does for the maritime one, everything here being positively frothed over by the Marine Stewardship Council.”

What are you waiting for? Come and visit us today…

* Only available for senior citizens, only served at lunchtimes in the Cheltenham restaurant, between the hours stated.

Beards Diamond Rush

Who took part in Beards Diamond Rush last weekend here in Gloucestershire? We did! It was a very busy day for us at Simpsons as, if you haven’t already heard, we were lucky enough to be hiding one of the diamonds in our shop.

Beards Diamond Rush, now in its fourth year, is organised by Beards Jewellers and raises money for the Maggie’s Cancer Care, Cheltenham. This year, the search began with a countdown outside Beards on the Promenade before bounty hunters set off in search around Gloucestershire to find the hidden diamonds, all worth £2,500 each!

However this year’s Beards Diamond Rush featured a twist that was announced at 12noon – that there was an 11th diamond up for grabs. To uncover the 11th diamond’s mystery location, people had to buy clues to discover the location was Simpsons.

diamond-hunters

To add an extra bit of glitz to the event, treasure hunters were joined in our fish and chip shop by celebrity rapper Professor Green who said he was “sad he didn’t get any fish and chips” but came along to support the day’s activities and cheer on those searching in Simpsons.

Professor Green

The day was a great way to raise money for charity, highlight the fantastic local businesses in Gloucestershire and have fun outside with family and friends. Congratulations to the lucky winners who discovered the hidden Beards Diamond deep in our sweetie jar and well done to everyone else that managed to find the other hidden jewels!

By Popular Demand… Battered Crème Eggs are Back!

It’s Easter soon, which can only mean one thing… battered crème eggs are back at Simpsons! Did you get to try them last time round? If you did, you’ll know how egg-stra special they are. If not, what are you waiting for? Get to Simpsons between 19th March and 8th April and give yourself an egg-citing treat!

Our battered crème eggs are exactly that… yummy crème eggs coated in our special batter and deep fried to perfection. They taste amazing and strike the perfect balance between savoury and sweet. Sound great, don’t they? And to get you in the mood, here’s some crème egg facts…

Bigger, not smaller

Cadbury’s might get some stick for reducing the size of some of their chocolate bars, but when it comes to their crème eggs, they’re actually bigger than they used to be – weighing in at 1g heavier than they were back in 1977.

Born in 1923

The Cadbury brothers created the first crème eggs back in 1923 as ‘Fry’s Crème Eggs’, renamed in 1971 as Cadbury’s Crème Eggs.

Not just crème eggs

As well as the original crème egg filling, Cadbury’s has given us 25 other variations over the years including caramel and Jaffa fillings.

Bigger than Everest

Did you know that so many crème eggs are made each year (a whopping 500 million!) that if you were to stack the yearly amount produced on top of each other, the pile would be ten times the size of Mount Everest!

Seasonal availability

Now we never realised this but crème eggs are only available annually between January 1st and Easter Day! Back in the 80s, they were available throughout the year but after a drop in sales, Cadbury’s returned to seasonal availability.

How do you eat yours?

There is a recommended way to eat a crème egg (can you believe it?!) which is to bite down cleanly on the egg while holding it firmly in place – chewing and swallowing half of the egg and then licking the filling out of the remaining half, and eating the empty shell last.
Well, that sounds good, but here at Simpsons, we think you should eat it any which way you want… oh and definitely try our battered version!

Deep fried…

We all know that crème eggs taste delicious, but we think the best way to eat them is to batter them! At Simpsons, we’ve mastered the art of battered crème eggs to perfection. Come and try them for yourself!

A Valentine’s Bouquet… With a Difference!

Here at Simpsons HQ, we’ve been busy concocting a wonderful – and different – Valentine’s gift for that special someone in your life. Something that speaks to a person’s stomach as well as their heart! Want to know more? Let us give you a clue… it’s like a bouquet but with a difference!

Instead of flowers, try food. Here at Simpsons, we’re so excited to announce the world’s first edible fish and chip bouquet (As seen on LADbible). Consisting of a dozen potato roses with accompanying fish Goujons as the leaf shaped foliage, our romantic arrangement is hand-tied and presented in traditional newspaper… what a unique way to say I love you to your Valentine!

Bonny Ritchie, Development Chief and founder of Simpsons Fish and Chips explains why it’s such a perfect gift; “Everyone knows that the real way to a person’s heart is through their stomach, so we’ve put a little twist on the traditional bouquet of a dozen red roses this year by making them entirely edible. What better way to reel in your Valentine than with this tasty treat?”

If you love the idea of presenting our Valentine’s Fish and Chip bouquet to your perfect catch, you can pre-order yours today by popping in-store. But be quick! These special bouquets are only available on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday 14th February and are subject to availability. Order yours now!
